Curtis Bodin
Curtis Bodin is an Army Veteran who proudly served 12.5 years with honor and distinction. After earning his degree in International Business, he transitioned into the telecommunications industry, where he now works professionally as an Account Executive.
Curtis’ martial arts journey began more than 30 years ago with early training in military combatives, but his true passion took shape under the guidance of Bruno “Tank” Mendes of Soul Fighters in Allen, Texas. What started as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training soon grew into a lifelong pursuit. Over the last eight years, Curtis has evolved from a dedicated student into a seasoned competitor, respected coach, and community leader.
In June 2023, he took a bold step by opening his own academy in Anna, Texas—building on his experience as the former owner and coach of Soul Fighters Dallas. His commitment to coaching excellence continues to grow, most recently through completing the Masterminds Coaching Certification Course under Justin “JFLO” Flores. This advanced program strengthens his ability to teach safe, effective, and modern takedown systems that enhance student learning and long-term progression.
Curtis believes deeply in the transformative power of martial arts. His academy welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds, and goals—whether they’re seeking fitness, confidence, community, resilience against bullying, or pursuing high-level competition. He teaches Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, and Combat Sambo with conviction, emphasizing both personal empowerment and technical proficiency.
Curtis’ coaching philosophy is profoundly shaped by his own journey through military-connected disabilities. During and after his service, he faced significant physical and emotional challenges—struggles familiar to many veterans and first responders. Jiu-Jitsu and Judo became more than martial arts; they became his pathway to healing, purpose, and renewed strength. What began as training turned into a vital outlet for coping, rebuilding confidence, and restoring balance.
This transformation directly informs the way Curtis teaches. He leads with empathy, patience, and a deep understanding that every student steps onto the mat carrying their own battles. He prioritizes safety, individualized instruction, and mental resilience—ensuring students feel seen, supported, and capable as they grow. His own experiences allow him to recognize when someone is struggling, encourage progress at any pace, and create an atmosphere where personal victories matter just as much as athletic ones.
For Curtis, coaching is not simply about shaping skilled martial artists—it’s about helping people reclaim strength in their lives, just as he did. His mission extends especially to veterans, service members, and first responders living with disabilities or PTSD. Through his academy, he provides a sanctuary of hope, healing, and empowerment, where overcoming hardship is equally important as mastering technique.
